Kristen Welker Takes Over as New Moderator on NBC's Meet the Press

NBC News Announces Welker's Appointment as Anchor of Long-Running News Program

Washington, D.C. - September 1, 2020

In a major move, NBC News has announced that Kristen Welker will take over as the moderator of the venerable news program Meet the Press, effective immediately. Welker, who has been with NBC News since 2010, becomes the first woman and the first African American to hold the esteemed position.

With her extensive experience and proven journalistic credentials, Welker is well-positioned to lead one of the nation's most respected political talk shows. In her previous roles at NBC, including her stint as White House correspondent during the Trump administration, Welker has consistently demonstrated her sharp intellect, poise, and unwavering commitment to objective reporting.

"Kristen Welker is an exceptional journalist whose talent and integrity are unmatched," said Noah Oppenheim, President of NBC News. "She has proven herself to be a fair and fearless reporter, and I am confident that she will bring the same qualities to her role as moderator of Meet the Press."

Welker will preside over her first episode of Meet the Press on September 6. The program will continue to air on Sundays at 9:00 AM ET on NBC and will feature in-depth interviews with leading newsmakers and analysis from a panel of experts.
